This unhappy event took place on the testbed of a large MAN B&W 2 stroke engine.
I'm not sure whether the bottom end failed first, or whether the piston jammed in the liner causing the liner to smash, jamming the piston and causing the con rod to bend almost double.
Anyway the results are impressive. If anyone knows the full story, please let me know.
