NOTE For Students Sitting Chief Engineer and Second Engineer SQA Motor EK papers
In the Motor EK Q and A web pages, ebooks and printed books, you will note that some of the answers given to questions, where a description has been asked for, that the answer has been given in bullet point form.
This is because I think this is the simplest way of describing how a procedure is carried out.
However, one of the motor examiners has quoted in a markers report form that:
“Some candidates do not engage with terms “describe” and “explain”, by using bullet points they are failing to gain all the marks on offer.”
So that you do not disadvantage yourself in any forthcoming exam, when asked to describe I suggest you write the answer in descriptive form, and when asked to explain again do not use bullet points. Ridiculous, I know, but…….
How to make a cup of tea: Descriptive.
Firstly after ensuring there is enough water in the kettle, plug it in and switch on at the socket. Take a cup out of the cupboard and place it the correct way up on the work surface adjacent to the kettle. Next open the tea caddy and remove a teabag, placing it in the cup. When the kettle boils, switch off at the mains for safety. Lift the kettle and pour boiling water on top of the teabag, taking care not to overfill the cup. Replace kettle and wait 3 -5 minutes for the tea to brew. Remove teabag with spoon and add milk to taste.
